Please mark your calendar for June 30, 2013 for our June Paint Out. We will be painting at Gail's house along the waterway near Swansboro... she even has a lily pond! We will be having an OOPS summer cookout so bring a covered dish and your spouse for great food, great company, great art, and a great time! More details to come in June.

Oil Painters List:
Assorted Bristle style brushes, odorless mineral spirits, container for oms,
mixing palette, rags or paper towels, two 11x14” canvases, and paints -
Titanium White, Cadmium Red (or Vermillion), Alizarin Crimson, Cadmium Yellow,
Ultramarine Blue, Cobalt Blue, Sap Green, and Dioxazine Purple.
Acrylics Painters List:

Workshop Details: This one day workshop will introduce the students to the
"Father of Impressionism," Claude Monet. Artist/instructor, Bernie
Rosage Jr., will dress in circa 1880 attire and give an interactive living
history program as he portrays a middle aged Claude Monet. He will share art
history from the Impressionist Art Movement and talk about Claude Monet's
contributions and unique painting style. This workshop is more than a living
history program, the main focus is painting in the style of Impressionism.
Bernie (aka Monet) will teach students the impressionistic style as they paint
a finished painting in the style made famous by Monet. The workshop is designed
for beginning and intermediate artists using the mediums of oils and/or
acrylics. Bernie’s step-by-step approach and individual attention makes this
workshop perfect for beginning artists but challenging enough for
intermediates. This unique workshop allows the students to witness art history
through one of the art world's most important figures plus paint in the style
of one of the world's most influential art movements... Impressionism!

OOPS Artists turn out in droves to paint at the Palo Alto Plantation!
What a great time the OOPS artists had at the Palo Alto Plantation painting Sunday. We were treated to a tour of the house by owners and gracious hosts, Brian and Stephanie Watson. It was a treat to have so many artists painting with us from out of town... places like Goldsboro, Salisbury, Appex, Kinston, White Lake, and Elizabethtown were represented. We !had several new members paint with us (it was cool to see five children drawing and painting) plus our Piedmont ladies, Phyllis, Sharon, and Beth. Brenda Behr even dropped by for a surprise visit to paint with us. Thanks everyone for making the beautiful day and beautiful location so much more special. Thanks to Karen for organizing this special paint out! See you next month at the wild flowers near the Emerald Isle bridge!

Spring into plein air season!
I came across this great blog article about plein air painting through Jerry's Artarama.... sounds like there may be several posts on the subject. Plein Air Painting - An Introduction
If you're at all familiar with art and painting, even peripherally, chances are you've heard of "plein air" painting. Despite appearances, painting en plein air is not just a snooty phrase tossed around by painters who are trying to be impressive: it's a real thing, practiced for hundreds of years, and one most likely in practice today by many artists who just aren't aware of its fancy French name.
The term en plein air is simply French for "in the open air," meaning plein air painting is just creating art outdoors. Now, you'll be thinking, "What about cavemen? What about Australian aborigines? What about all those outdoor megaliths and Egyptian statues and everything that's been around for thousands of years before France even existed? Surely THEY didn't work en plein air!" Okay, technically that's correct. It's just that the French coined the phrase for it back in the 1800's when painting outdoors really took off and its popularity skyrocketed.

OOPS April 21st Paint Out at Historic Palo Alto Plantation House

WHERE: Palo Alto Plantation, Swansboro, NC. The Palo Alto will whisk you and your guests back in time with its reconstruction. The owners Brian and Stephanie Watson have re-created a bit of history in Onslow County. They have worked diligently restoring the Greek revival charm that the Palo Alto Plantation embodies. They have worked together with the Historical Society of Onslow county to assure that the re-construction process meets all the guidelines to maintain its standing as one of Onslow Counties oldest historic homes. The Palo Alto Plantation sits on three acres of historic Civil War history.
