My love for plein air painting and socializing with other artists is the motivating factor behind this adventure. The society is in the very early stages of being organized. A special thanks to Karen Crenshaw who came up with the catchy name... OOPS!... Onslow Outdoor Painters Society. Once we have several other artists committed to the adventure we will work out the details for "Paint out" dates and locations.
No dues are required for membership... there will be no by-laws, no Robert's Rule of Order, nor officers elected. A simple passion for painting "en plein aire" is the only requirement. All skill levels and mediums are invited to join in on the fun. We will even accept artists from out of Onslow County to join the adventure.
The game plan for now is to meet for "Paint Outs"... one about every six weeks... most likely a Sunday afternoon. These paint outs will occur anywhere in Onslow County. I think Stephen Greer's analogy of these "Paint Outs" was right on the mark when he said... "if we were musicians this would be a jam session". Once we get started members will choose the location for the next paint out. In case of rain... the show will still go on... the person who planned the location will be responsible for bringing items for a still life which can be painted from life under a shelter as an option.
If you are interested in joining the ranks please contact me via email (below) and get your name on the list. We will use this blog as a source of communication, a place to highlight our work from each "Paint Out", and as a link to your artist website and other various sites of interest. We will also use it to get info out about plein air painting in general.
I hope you are looking forward to this as much as I am... until then... happy painting!

For years, the oldtimers have prayed that a young enthusiastic person would join our ranks. Bernie certainly fills the bill. It has been awhile since I've seen someone so energetic, enthusiastic and with such a love for painting. I really hope he can stir up a new interest in plein air painting.
ReplyDelete... and I won't be satisfied until you join us for an outing or two Connie. You could find us one of your favorite tobacco barns to paint.
