New River Banks Party Paint Out... Sunday May 25th.

New River Banks Party
Memorial Day Sunday, May 25, 2008
10:oo am ~ 4:00 pm
Water Front Park, Downtown Jacksonville

This picture is of a gathering of people on the banks of the New River in Jacksonville, North Carolina (circa 1905). Like in days of old... people will gather once again on the banks of the New River at Water Front Park near the Pellitier House in downtown Jacksonville. Take a boat ride, meet authors, watch artists, artisans, and traditional crafters at work, listen to local music and storytellers, and for the first time there will be a Seafood Chowder Cook Off. With the exception of a bowl of chowder... the celebration party is FREE to the public! Make plans to attend...

OPPS artists will position themselves around the park and the historic Pellitier House painting en plein aire for one of their monthly "paint outs" from 10:00 am until 4:00 pm.

See you there...

FUN, FUN, FUN @ March "Paint Out" in Downtown Jacksonville

OOPS members had another GREAT time at their recent "Paint Out" in downtown Jacksonville on the 16th. Another cool and breezy day with the biggest challenge being the changing light. The afternoon started overcast and then the sun came out and cast long shadows. We met several nice folks... Jim Meyers who is an artist opening a working art studio downtown, Mike and Anna Jarman who plan to join OOPS, and Gina, a sweet Korean lady who brought us all some hot green tea. Thanks Gina!

left to right: Dean, Patsy, Karen (top), Donna T., Pat, Stephen, Kathi, Bernie, Donna G., and Mitchell.

Donna G. settled in for a GREAT day of plein air painting!

Pat showing off her AWESOME painting at the train depot.

Karen positioning herself out of the wind and painting a house and street scene.

Bernie painting a street scene.

Kathi nestled in out of the wind to paint a tree across the street.

Patsy trying out her new easel and painting the old caboose.

Stephen sketching.

Dean painting court street and breaking in his new French easel.

Donna T. painting the old train station (Now the BOLD building). Earl was unable to join us this month.

Mitchel wielding a palette knife and painting the old Atlantic Coastline Caboose.

Finished works coming soon...
