Equipment needed for plein air work
- Working indoors from photos
- Capturing light effects
- work on your own and/or approach galleries with your work after you’ve created your masterpiece
- Simplifying objects- stick figures welcomed
- Working quickly- time waits for no one
- Massing in and values- from blobs to objects
- Color and composition theory, it’s not as boring as it sounds
- Color palette choices- your individuality expressed in pigment
- How to sell your work on your own and/or approach galleries with your work after you’ve created your masterpiece
Suggested materials list:
- Easel and any supplies needed to paint outside. (i suggest you do a 6x8 outdoor painting outside before the workshop to see if you have everything you'll need)
- A TV tray or portable table to put your stuff on if you don’t have a French easel or pochade kit
- Pad of 140 lb watercolor paper for exercises
- Oil painters! If you want to underpaint like I do in addition to your oil gear you will need 5 small tubes of acrylic paint and a small and medium synthetic brush:
- Acrylic tubes of magenta, white, any yellow, red, and blue
- Water to wash out acrylics
- Several canvases or supports of your choice (no larger than 11x14). I suggest bringing at least 3-6x8's and 1- 11x14 for the one day workshop
- Paint- at least one each : yellow, red, blue, and white, brushes, rags, and all materials needed to paint

There is room for 2, maybe 3, more in the workshop with Mike Rooney, June 21 – 23. I am attaching the forms in case the time in June works for the OOPS folks – I hope it does as we have such a fun group so far, and would love to have them. I do not know of another time this summer near here, but there is one in the fall on Bald Head. I don’t think those dates are set yet, but his blog has all the current info with the dates and times of workshops. Thank you for sharing this information!

Local Plein Air Workshops ~ SHORT NOTICE!
This is short notice, but if you could, please let your group know about a local plein air oil painting workshop happening this week. All are welcome to join in for one or more sessions.
Each session is $30 per person.
Award-winning, Charlotte artist, Paul Keysar will be teaching a week-long plein air painting workshop along the Crystal Coast, September 22-25. For more information about Paul Keysar, please see http://www.paulkeysar.com and http://paulkeysar.blogspot.com.
Join us for a late summer / early fall plein air painting workshop on the beautiful Crystal Coast of North Carolina. Paul will demonstrate how to lay in an accurate portrayal of the landscape while dealing with the quickly changing light. He will also talk to you about the variety of materials and techniques involved in dealing with the natural environment. Each day will start with a lecture/demo, followed by plenty of time for students to work. Individual instruction will be given to each student at each session.

ABOUT PAUL KEYSAR
Paul Keysar is known for his classic, representational oil paintings of landscapes and still lifes. He is an award-winning plein air painter and studio artist and a Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts graduate. "As an artist, I am continually observing life around me. I am fascinated by the effects of light, atmosphere, and weather. My goal is to show the beauty of the land and man’s dependence on it." He has participated in numerous solo and group shows, and his work is owned by collectors throughout the country. This workshop is designed for the participant who wants to learn about painting the landscape directly from nature in pastel and/or oil. The majority of the class will be held on location. In addition there will be classroom discussion and demonstrations relating to landscape painting in general, and pastel or oil in particular. Included in the demos will be one aimed at improving photography as a reference. In case of bad weather, painting will be in the studio from photos or your field studies, so bring some landscape photos or field studies with you (just in case).
Kevin is a landscape painter working in both pastel and oil paints. Plein air landscapes are his primary subject matter. Kevin is a popular workshop instructor with students across the United States. He teaches one to five day workshops in pastel and oil painting in the studio and plein air. Kevin is collected in the US, Canada, Europe, and New Zealand.
