OOPS Artists planning to attend Kinston Paint Out this Friday and Saturday.

Fellow OOPS Artists...
As discussed at our last paint out... many of us talked about car-pooling to Kinston this Friday for the Kinston Plein Air Paint Out... details here...

I will be picking Stephen up at 7:45 AM on Friday... Anyone wishing to carpool and follow us should meet at the Food Lion near the corner of Gumbranch Road and Western Blvd across from Williamsburg Plantation sub-division by 8:00 AM. We can figure out at that point who can ride with who leaving the extra vehicles in the parking lot there. We will plan to leave Food Lion at 8:00 AM so we can make registration, coffee, and donuts at 9:00 AM in Kinston.

You will want to carry extra water and possibly a bagged lunch. If everyone is game... we can eat at King's BBQ afterward.

Please sign in the comments section of this post if you plan to attend.

We'll have a BLAST!

Bernie

PS... I just spoke with Mary, a plein air artist from Kinston, who is helping organize the event. We can pay our $30 that Friday morning at 9:00 AM at the park. From there... the rules and boundaries of the paint out will be given. Bring several panels... you can paint as many as you want and enter three for judging on Saturday at noon. The Saturday event will be going on at the the same time as a festival (till 3:00 PM) where you will be able to offer your paintings for sale.

PSS... Donna, Can you get this info to Mitchell and Penny? Thanks!

It was so neat to see the artists set up in various locations throughout the memorial site painting a variety of scenes. Pictured below... Olivia, Mitchell, and Pat painting away!

Mike Rooney Plein Air 2 Day workshop at ArtSource in Raleigh, May 2-3.

Just in case you missed registering for the sold out workshop in Jacksonville on May 24th by Mike Rooney... here's another chance...

ArtSource Fine Art Gallery in Raleigh is proud to be able to present a two day workshop with notable artist Mike Rooney! Mike specifically passed along your email address to make sure that you'd have the opportunity to take advantage of this unique workshop experience. This acrylic plein air workshop will be held May 2 & 3 at our gallery in the historic and picturesque Raleigh neighborhood of Five Points. Each day will run from 9am - 5pm and the cost is $100 per person per day. You're welcome to sign up for one or both days, though we do encourage both to get the full experience. If you get 2 or more friends to sign up with you, you'll each receive 10% off of the registration fee as a group discount! Our workshops are limited in size and we think that a small participant group allows for the best and most comprehensive experience; each participant is ensured lots of personal attention!

The following topics and techniques will be discussed and demonstrated over the course of the workshop:

~Equipment needed for plein air work
~Working indoors from photos
~Simplifying objects - stick figures welcomed
~Working quickly - time waits for no one
~Massing in and values - from blobs to objects
~Color and composition theory, its not as boring as it sounds
~Color palette choices - your individuality expressed in pigment
~How to sell your work on your own and/or approach galleries with your work after you've created your masterpiece

There will be quick demos, indoor instruction (if it rains) and outdoor painting. In the afternoon of the last day, there will be a relaxed critique of works completed during class. If you would like to participate, sign the attached contract and return it to me by fax, mail, or in person to the North Hills gallery along with a check (or credit card number) for the registration fee in order to reserve your spot. Once you're registered, I'll get you the supply list. We hope that you'll consider registering and look forward to seeing you there! If you have any questions or for more information please feel free to contact me - my information is below. Also, please be sure to keep checking our website for information about other upcoming events and workshops! Thanks very much!

FUN, FUN, FUN @ March "Paint Out" in Downtown Jacksonville

OOPS members had another GREAT time at their recent "Paint Out" in downtown Jacksonville on the 16th. Another cool and breezy day with the biggest challenge being the changing light. The afternoon started overcast and then the sun came out and cast long shadows. We met several nice folks... Jim Meyers who is an artist opening a working art studio downtown, Mike and Anna Jarman who plan to join OOPS, and Gina, a sweet Korean lady who brought us all some hot green tea. Thanks Gina!

Donna G. settled in for a GREAT day of plein air painting!
